We are learning every day that there are ways in which people with Parkinson’s disease can enhance their daily quality of life and even build impressive power, strength, flexibility, and speed!

Rock Steady Boxing is a uniquely effective form of physical exercise for people who are living with Parkinson’s:

  • This non-contact, boxing-inspired fitness routine is proving to dramatically improve the ability of people with Parkinson’s to live independent lives.
  • Boxing works by moving your body in all planes of motion while continuously changing the routine as you progress through the workout.
  • These classes have proven that anyone, at any level of Parkinson’s, can lessen their symptoms and lead a healthier/happier life.
  • By exercising with our coaches who know the ropes, you can fight your way out of the corner and start to feel and function better.

Cardiovascular & Diabetes Exercise Programs

Cooper® Tracks

Cooper Tracks is a series of education and exercise programs for those living with (or at risk of) cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

Developed in collaboration with healthcare professionals and certified fitness experts, Cooper Tracks comprehensive health education programs give participants the opportunity to learn how lifestyle modifications can positively affect their well-being and health conditions.

Each track is facilitated by a certified personal trainer and offered in a private, semi-private or small group setting.

Cardiovascular Track

Cooper Tracks cardiovascular program is for those diagnosed with stable cardiovascular disease, have completed cardiac rehab or diagnosed with cardiovascular risk factors including high blood pressure, high cholesterol, family history, diabetes and obesity.

Our team will tailor the program to each individual, providing fitness tips, modifications for daily activity and health education. Participants receive guidance and support to help begin exercising, increase confidence, and develop habits to live healthier and manage their cardiovascular conditions.

Cooper® Tracks Cardiovascular Program Frequently Asked Questions

Cooper tracks cardiovascular program is for those diagnosed with stable cardiovascular disease, have completed cardiac rehab or diagnosed with cardiovascular risk factors including high blood pressure, high cholesterol, family history, diabetes and obesity.

A stable blood pressure and heart rate, ambulatory, able to perform 10 min sustained activity or exercise, medical clearance from doctor. After signing up for class participants will complete paperwork and get clearance from their doctor. Each participant will then have an orientation scheduled after forms are reviewed- a pre and post health assessments will be completed. Cardiovascular, fitness and body composition will be completed. Orientation to the facility will be completed. The trainer will then create a workout card for the individual. A post questionnaire will be completed by participants at the end of all sessions.

Comfortable, breathable clothing to be active and work out in, suggestions include shorts, sweatpants, leggings, t-shirts and comfortable supportive tennis shoes.

We stress the importance of staying properly hydrated, so make sure to bring plenty of water. Bottled water is also available for purchase at the gym. Community “yoga mats” (may be used for warm up/cool down) are also available, although you may bring your own if you prefer. You can find yoga mats for purchase at almost any retailer (Meijer, Walmart, Marshalls, etc).

8 weeks, 2 sessions a week for 90 minutes

At this time Cooper tracks is offered only at our Wisconsin Athletic Club Lake Country location. We are hoping to expand to other WAC locations in the future.

Warm up, aerobic and strength activities, cool down, education (always a tailored approach to the individual)

Sessions can be done as private (1-on-1), semi-private (groups of 2-4) or small group (groups of 5-10).

To build community, gain confidence and knowledge. You do not need to be a member of the WAC to participate, but we do encourage exercising on your own outside of sessions. Options for additional exercise will be discussed by your trainer.

If at any time you feel frustrated or unable to keep up with those around you, please communicate that to your trainer. Modifications and suggestions can be offered. Do not do any exercises that you are uncomfortable doing, talk to your coaches first if you are unsure of a specific exercise. This program offers a non-judgmental and encouraging environment which we hope allows you to share any concerns at any time.

Lockers and shower facilities are available in the locker rooms at Wisconsin Athletic Club. Use of all WAC facilities is allowed on class days. There are also coat racks and shoe mats available for use.

A WAC membership is not required to participate in the Cooper Tracks program, though additional fees may apply.

Diabetes Track

Cooper tracks diabetes program is for those diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, Type 2 Diabetes, pre-diabetes, metabolic syndrome, history of diabetes or history of gestational diabetes.

Our team will tailor the program to each individual, providing fitness tips, modifications for daily activity and health education. Participants receive guidance and support to help begin exercising, increase confidence, and develop habits to live healthier and manage their diabetic conditions.

Independent with blood sugar management, stable blood pressure and heart rate, ambulatory, able to perform 10 min sustained activity or exercise, medical clearance from doctor. After signing up for class participants will complete paperwork and get clearance from their doctor. Each participant will then have an orientation scheduled after forms are reviewed- a pre and post health assessments will be completed. Cardiovascular, fitness and body composition will be completed. Orientation to the facility will be completed. The trainer will then create a workout card for the individual. A post questionnaire will be completed by participants at the end of all sessions.

Blood glucose monitor, test strips, insulin pen or pump. Fast sugars- glucose tabs, gel, or fruit juice. Carbohydrate snack 15g – granola bar, crackers, cheese stick. Community “yoga mats” (may be used for warm up/cool down) are also available, although you may bring your own if you prefer. We do have guidelines prior to our diabetes program depending on your individual diagnosis. Blood sugar should be checked and greater than 100 mg/dL. Have a snack up to 30 min prior to exercise. Plan on a 30 min workout – snack should be 15 g carb.
